Connecting X

Connecting an X account lets Scout read how your founder posts and threads perform and, after your approval, publish posts you have reviewed.

What it unlocks

Follower and following counts, posts, impressions, likes, replies, reposts, quotes, bookmarks, profile clicks, and URL clicks.
Brand, handle, and domain mentions. TractionScout derives a bounded mention query from your project's business context.
Post performance and launch conversations as evidence in readouts.
Approved publishing of posts, threads, and launch updates through the native X API, or through your own automation endpoint if you prefer.

Publishing always goes through the action queue; nothing is posted without an explicit approval.

What access is requested

The X sign-in requests these scopes: tweet.read, tweet.write, users.read, media.write, and offline.access. Write and media scopes exist only so approved publish jobs can post; reading metrics never posts. offline.access provides the refresh token that keeps the connection alive.

Prerequisites

An X account you are allowed to connect, ideally the founder or brand account whose posts you want to measure.
Permission to manage credentials in the TractionScout project.

X is one of the OAuth connections available during the alpha. Some other social platforms show Coming soon.

Steps

Open Configure → Data Sources and choose X.
Select Connect X. You are taken to X's authorization screen; sign in with the account to connect and approve the requested permissions.
You return to TractionScout with the account already filled in as the Connected account; there is no separate resource to choose.
Optionally set the sync interval (default 60 minutes). The advanced fields for a pasted access token, an endpoint override, or an API host are fallbacks for automation setups and can stay empty.
Save and run the first sync.

After the first sync

The connection shows the last successful sync and Scout can report on your recent posts, audience change, and mentions. Publishing capability appears in the action queue: when Scout drafts a post or thread, you review it and approve before it is sent. The integration reports the number of publish jobs that succeeded.

Metrics reflect what the X API returns for the authorized account. Mention monitoring is a bounded query and is treated as timeline evidence, not as a complete count of every conversation.

Common questions

Can I connect more than one account? Each connection holds one authorized account. Add another connection for another account.

Will Scout post on its own? No. Publishing needs an approved job in the action queue.

Why does the connection say "Reconnect account"? The token was revoked or expired. Sign in again from the connection; imported history is kept.

Can I use an automation tool instead of the X API? Yes. Set the endpoint override and a token so approved jobs are handed to your endpoint.

Disconnecting

Open the connection in Data Sources and select Remove connection. The token is deleted with the integration, syncs and publishing stop, and imported evidence stays in the project. To revoke access on X as well, remove the TractionScout app from the connected apps in your X account settings.
